Creativity may have become a low priority for many during the cost-of-living crisis. But making with our hands is still an essential skill to support us in these hard times.

Creative skills using arts and crafts supports our mental health. And for children, creative activities also build cognitive skills, confidence and self-expression, and helps them to develop their hand-eye coordination.

Creative making and play can provide children with hours of happiness and escape through their own brilliant imaginations and inherent creativity. However, many children don’t have access to basic materials at home.

The Let's Craft appeal was originally created by Crafts Council in 2020, during the Covid pandemic. Thanks to the incredible generosity of individuals, partners and foundations, the initative raised over £117,000, reaching over 11,000 children.

This year Crafts Council has teamed up with Hobbycraft and other regional providers with the aim of getting 20,000 craft packs into the hands of children who don't have access to arts and craft supplies at home, but who would benefit from them.
