Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair Goes Online

13 July 2020 by Michelle

Emergency funding from Arts Council England is enabling the award-winning Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair to reinvent their 2020 edition, to support designer-makers affected by Covid-19. The GNCCF show will go on - online - from 25th to 31st July 2020.

Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair Goes Online

GNCCFonline is a first for the team behind the much loved craft fair and a way of helping the 160 designer-makers originally selected to take part in, what would have been, the 13th edition of the fair.

Contemporary craft isn’t just a match for anything from a top-end retailer. It’s more individual, more vibrant and has provenance; made for keeps, not just a season. Via the online festival, you will be able to buy direct from 160 top UK makers and support the craft community affected by this pandemic. This online craft festival will be an opportunity to buy handmade craft & design from some of UK designer-makers, working across a wide range of craft disciplines including jewellery, textiles, ceramics, glass, print and furniture making.

GNCCF Director Ann-Marie Franey says:

“Makers have been particularly hard hit financially by the pandemic with the closure of galleries and exhibitions and the cancellation of workshops, teaching and fairs. We wanted to do something to help them. Through GNCCFonline, not only will people be able to buy work of an exceptional standard but they will also be supporting the craft community too.”

The on-line shop window will offer the chance to buy outstanding craft and design direct from 160 of the top makers in the UK, working across jewellery, textiles, ceramics, glass, print and furniture making and to browse new pieces specially created for GNCCFonline.

The work for sale is the same carefully curated showcase of designer-makers the GNCCF is renowned for, with all exhibitors being selected by a panel of craft experts to give you the best of high-end and beautiful craftsmanship.

GNCCF Director, Angela Mann says:

“For the past 12 years, the GNCCF has provided a platform for makers to sell their work direct to an appreciative audience, looking for something more than the curated comfort of terribly nice department stores. In 2020, we are reinventing and reforming the way we work so visitors – both near and far -  can still access exquisite craft all in one place, but from the comfort and safety of their homes.”

All work is handmade, and no two items are quite the same. So, if you want to own something that no-one else does, scroll through the makers on the GNCCF’s website, find something you love and make it yours. In addition to new pieces, makers will also be posting special offers, studio tours and demonstrations on Instagram and Facebook throughout the week.

The online fair goes live from 10am Saturday 25th July and will be on all week, finishing Friday 31st July.
