Independent film lights up Preston's biggest cinema screens
Discover the future of filmmaking on the big screen.
Lancashire Firestorm Presents... is a regular showcase of outstanding short films from emerging and established filmmakers from across the UK and around the world. Each programme is carefully curated by the Lancashire Film Network team and offers audiences the chance to experience bold storytelling, fresh perspectives and award-winning cinema that you won't find in mainstream multiplexes.
From laugh-out-loud comedies and gripping dramas to thought-provoking documentaries and imaginative genre films, every showcase brings together a unique collection of shorts designed to entertain, inspire and surprise.
Whether you're a dedicated film lover, aspiring filmmaker or simply looking to experience something different, these screenings provide a rare opportunity to discover exciting new voices and celebrate the art of short filmmaking on the cinema screen.
For the August edition, Firestorm explores the more provocative side of cinema, with films like:
- Violet (Germany): After an argument with his mother, 12-year-old Dan, who suffers from scoliosis, seeks love and intimacy from 17-year-old Anna, who is supposed to look after him. While his mother, who works for a security company, is on the night shift, Dan and Anna cross set boundaries.
- Barred (UK): The complexities of a life inside prison, through two very different cell mates.
- Night is an Odd Day (Italy): A food truck selling cyanotic butcher's waste appears in the village, and little Tomasso can't imagine his fate lies with Vittorio, the man slicing meat before his eyes.
- Distressing Images (UK): A content moderator for a social media site begins to suspect his young son is hiding violent tendencies.
Discover something new. Experience cinema differently. Be part of Firestorm from the very beginning.
Tickets are only £5 in-foyer, or online from the Arc Cinema website.
