Exhibition: COBinet of Curiosities

The Creatives of Blackburn (COB), is a group of local artists, makers and creatives aged 18-35 who meet monthly at the museum. 

They have brought together a selection of museum objects inspired by their personal interests to create a new collection of multi-disciplinary works that together re-imagine a traditional Cabinet of Curiosity or Wunderkammer*. 

From folklore to diving and fashion to clouds, the displays you'll find inside are reflections of them, their experiences and their local communities.

* A cabinet of curiosities (also called a Wunderkammer or wonder-room) was a small room or piece of furniture where Renaissance collectors stored rare, strange, and wondrous objects from nature, science and art.

COB was co-founded in 2023 by Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery and the National Festival of Making. The group offers a space for like-minded people who have an interest and passion for creativity to come together to socialise and share ideas. We participate in a range of activities including trips, crafts, funded commissions and exhibition opportunities.
