Let's Talk... Creativity, Culture & Place
with guest Michael Trainor – Art B&B
6pm Thurs 6 February 2020
Society 1, Preston
From film, place-making, spatial development, creative tourism, clusters and hubs, the creative industries and those who operate in the related professions impact and inform the development of global Uber cities as much as it is key to independent culture of smaller towns.
This discussion will explore to what extent creative industries can be a driver for regeneration and look at some of the innovative models that are being developed locally and globally.
Guest Speaker: Michael Trainor
Michael Trainor is the Creative Director of the new Art Bed & Breakfast (Art B&B) hotel. As recently featured on BBC Radio 4's Front Row, Art B&B is a social enterprise which is refurbishing a Blackpool seafront hotel through commissioning artists to develop everything from the room designs to the hotel operations. The hotel is now open and has 19 bedrooms as well as social and creative spaces for performances, exhibition and events plus a bar. The model is to re-invest profits into local creative initiatives and further art commissioning. Michael's previous roles include director of LeftCoast, the trailblazing Arts Council supported Creative People & Places programme, Chair of Northern Quarter association and various arts commissions including Liverpool Biennial, Liverpool City of Culture plus curatorial roles across the UK and beyond.
