New opportunity to apply for funding to support rural business growth in Lancashire, through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

The Growth Programme provides funding to help projects in England that create jobs and economic growth. Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has responsibility for managing EAFRD. Rural Payments Agency (RPA) manages these grants on behalf of Defra.  This call for projects is part of a £4.2m allocation to the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership.

The call for projects opened on the 30th September and will close on the 27th November 2015 for outline applicaitons.

This call for projects is specifically targeted at businesses in the following sectors;

  • Advanced manufacturing and aerospace
  • Low carbon
  • Environmental technology
  • Renewable energy
  • Creative and digital
  • Chemical
  • High value professional and business services
  • Food and drink, with a focus on the application of science and technology in agriculture

Grants will be available for this call from £35,000 up to €200,000 (approximately £140,000).  State aid rules will apply which may affect the amount of grant offered.  The total grant funding available for this call is £420,000.

LEADER - Rural Business Grants *Due to launch in November 2015*

Lancashire County Council is in the process of setting up the new LEADER programme for the rural areas of Lancashire. As part of the LEADER programme 3 new Local Action Groups (LAGs) have been set up to guide and oversee the new programmes.  

The £3.6m LEADER Funding will help businesses to invest in innovative business practices and new technoloies; to help them become more sustainable and productive.  This could include investing in equipment and refurbishing buildings to support growth.

The LEADER funding comes from the Rural Development Programme for England 2014 – 2020, which is administered by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Rural Payments Agency (RPA).

Rural businesses will be able to apply for funding under 6 themes;

  • Support for micro and small enterprises and farm diversification
  • Support for increasing farm productivity
  • Support for rural tourism
  • Provision of rural services
  • Support for cultural and heritage activity
  • Support for increasing forestry production
