National Open Art Reflections

The 2014 Ramadan Reflections Competition is open to everyone and invites the talent and imagination of beginner, emerging and established artists across the UK as they share their personal reflections about the spiritual, cultural and religious traditions during Ramadan through creativity.

The competition is open to individuals based in the United Kingdom over the age of 14. Cash prizes will be awarded and winners will have their photos published online and in print.

Subject categories include: People, Place & Perspective. Entrants are encouraged to take inspiration from people in prayer, holy places, mosques, iftar and suhoor foods, family gatherings, or your town, city or landscape during the month of Ramadan.

Judging & Prizes

Entries will be judged on the following criteria: Message, Creativity, Quality, Expression. Entries should be 2D only and can range from photography, painting, illustration or digital art.

What are the prizes?:

  • 1st place - £1,000
  • 2nd place - £500
  • 3rd place - £250

An entry fee of £20 covers all media; only one work per entrant will be accepted and can be placed for exhibition or sale in each category if the artist requires so. All winners will have their winning entry (and name) published in news and media outlets. Winners of the competition will be chosen on or around 29th August, 2014. The competition will end at midnight 14th August, 2014.

Terms and Conditions

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • Photographic images of your work resized - 250KB - 2MB - (Maximum 3 works may be entered at £20 each). For more details about the images, email
  • Title - Medium - Measurment in centimetres (with frame if applicable) - Price at sensible market price please.
  • £20 for additional submissions. Your initial £20 registration fee entitles you to upload 1 image. Additional images £20 each (maximum 3 = £60)
  • Artist's statement of maximum 30 words for each work. Please note that the statement must be about the work and should not include any personal details.

How to Enter

  • The entry fee of £20 covers each entry of two-dimensional works in any media; only one work per entrant will be accepted for exhibition in each category
  • Send your entries with the non-refundable entry fee of £20, payable to 'L&E Foundation' to:
  • No entries to be larger than 120x150cm when framed (canvases do not need to be framed)
  • Online digital entries please (minimum 300dpi)
  • Postal entries: Colour photos or prints (no larger than A4 and minimum 300dpi) of two-dimensional works in any medium should be submitted
  • Each postal entry must be clearly marked with your name and address and title of the work placed in an envelope to which you must affix the entry coupon form. Place into a larger envelope for posting, with a stamped addressed envelope (with the correct return postage please) for the return of your entry.
