REALTIMEUK: ENTERING THEIR 3RD DECADE

During his 5-year degree at Art College, Tony Prosser, MD of RealtimeUK swiftly moved from the drawing board to computer graphics and it didn’t take long before he discovered his passion for everything CGI.

Recruiting some of the best talent around at the time, Tony set out to make his mark on the CG industry and in 1996, from his bedroom in Lytham, RealtimeUK was born.

Moving to their first studio in Lancashire, it didn’t take long for people to notice RealtimeUK’s quality and passion with their first few projects coming in from big names such as: McLaren, Ford, and Lego. They soon expanded from renting a small studio to taking over the whole top floor.

The big break came in 2005 when Sony approached RealtimeUK to create the launch film for their PS3 title Motorstorm. RealtimeUK went on to work with, at the time, emerging game developer Wargaming, creating trailers for their titles World of Tanks, World of Warships, World of Warplanes as they developed into the Billion Dollar business they are today.

Landing a contract with Aston Martin for their high-end car configurator and marketing films in 2010 ignited the rapid growth of their automotive division that now services Aston, Bentley, VW and Infiniti.

The 2015 release of Smite: ‘Battleground of the Gods’ and the sequel ‘To Hell & Back’ in quick succession helped pave the expansion of the cinematics team into more character based story trailers. This very much established the studios future direction and was clearly demonstrated by their recent release, Dropzone.

Not allowed to say too much, but we’ve heard some of their cinematics department have been mastering cinematic production within a game engine which is to be released at GDC, so keep your eye peeled for that.

We asked Tony Prosser (above), what the best thing has been about 20 years of RealtimeUK:

“The scale, drama and level of characterisation within our video games cinematics continues to evolve and grow. I’m also so proud of our team’s continued commitment to creating some of the world’s most enviable productions. Their creativity and passion is still at the heart of everything the company creates and is the reason why we’re still growing so quickly to this day in an industry that is more competitive than ever. Just in these first four months of our 21st year, we’ve started working with some new technologies for some major house hold names that will see the breadth and diversity of our services take an ever more exciting course as we move into our third decade.

I’m delighted that even after 20 years, our company is still going from strength to strength. In many respects our 20th year is our strongest yet. We’ve brought on board more clients from the automotive sector - VW and Infiniti to join our expanding contracts with Bentley.”
