Front-End Developer: Factored

Independent multidisciplinary design studio based in Lancaster, seeking an individual that is motivated, hard working and deadline driven to develop interactive & websites and web applications

Vacancy — Front-End Web Developer

We are Factored, an independent multidisciplinary design studio based in Lancaster.

We specialise in brand and digital design, challenging the norm to innovate, exceed expectations and drive results.

Made up of grafters and crafters, we’re a small but bold team, unafraid to ask questions and create change. We’re young, experienced and incredibly focused on making an impact though strategy led design.

Our clients share a common thread — a belief that change creates opportunity and an attitude to innovate and abandon. Our partnerships with clients allow us to share in their success and grow with them.

We’re a small team competing with the best, and we’re looking to grow with the appointment of a full time Creative Front-End Web Developer.

You’ll be working closely with the UX team on digital and offline projects across a range of sectors including retail, education, leisure and professional services.

We’re seeking an individual that is motivated, hard working and deadline driven to develop interactive & creative websites and web applications. Applicants should have multiple years of experience writing custom JavaScript, CSS and X(HTML). Expertise writing semantic, modular front-end code using HTML5, CSS3 and W3C coding practices are a must. Experience using CSS preprocessors and front-end frameworks will be required. In addition, an understanding of the entire web development process, including design, development and deployment.

It goes without saying that the person must have:

  • An understanding of layout aesthetics
  • Understanding of scripting languages such as PHP and experience integrating with server-side code to produce dynamic pages
  • Usability best practices
  • Experience with responsive adaptive design
  • Familiarity in performance optimisation tools, browser testing and debugging
  • Custom templating and development in Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento and other content management systems
  • Knowledge of working with JavaScript frameworks and libraries to create rich interactive content
  • Organisation and planning skills with the ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills for team projects and building/ maintaining client relationships

If you love a heavy use of text-shadow, can’t get enough of <table> layouts and you think Arial is a cracking font, then we’re probably not the guys for you.

Above all, we’re just looking for a genuine individual who has a good personality and is willing to give everything a go, regardless of whether you’re a junior or have 7  awards in your back pocket (although we’d be a bit jealous about that).

If you’re the person we’re looking for, then welcome. E-mail us at with some examples of your work and we’ll be in touch.
