Adam Slade of Swarm Design Exhibiting at Creative Lancashire Hub

Adam Slade of Swarm Design is just one of the exhibitors involved in the Creative Lancashire Hub Gallery that will be showcasing work at BOB North.

Creative Director Adam Slade, a textiles graduate of the Bath School of Art and Design set up a brand 2011 with a view to challenging the textiles status-quo and a desire to push the boundaries of interior decor with the use of unusual intricately drawn imagery and a strikingly bold monochromic colour pallet.

All designs start with detailed pen drawings by Adam of various inspirations and interest, such as insects, antiques and statuary. These are then digitally printed by a top-end British furnishing fabrics print manufacturer and are then handmade into interior products.

Adam Slade of Swarm Design studied in Newcastle. When he returned to Lancaster he was one selected to participate in the prestigious Crafts Council Hothouse programme.

Creative Lancashire worked closely with partners including Best of Britannia curatorial team and the Crafts Council to create the Creative Lancashire Hub space.

"Pad was set up as a place that makers and creators could show and sell their work to a local audience. It was borne out of seeing so much great design and creative talent on our doorstep (and around the region) to help find ways to take that talent out of the studio and into the heart of the city."
Jenny Rutter, Executive Director, They Eat Culture & Former Director of Pad Gallery

‘I have always found myself inspired by the unusual, the unconventional, the odd and the intriguing. My work showcases my meticulously drawn artwork, taken from all the wonderful and interesting things that interest and delight me, an eclectic mix of flora, fauna, antiques, anatomy and statuary, which in a bizarre and slightly surreal way, all connect together to form beautiful and unusually enchanting narrative scenes in the work. Combined with a mix of geometric and organic pattern and selective colour, my designs capture and radiate my love of the weird, the wonderful and the sometimes sinister.’
Adam Slade - Director

Formerly ‘Adam Slade Interior Textiles,’ at Swarm Design there have been more than but a few changes.

A participant in the Crafts Council 2014 Hothouse program, a development course designed to offer support and business advice to emerging designer/makers, company director Adam Slade states that it was the fantastic mentoring and limitless support provided on the program by its facilitators, partners and fellow participants that armed him with the confidence and inspiration to completely rethink and rebrand the business.

With its distinctive edge and mysterious charm, Swarm Design offers a contemporary take on a Victorian aesthetic, aiming to diminish minimalist decorating and challenge what you think you want in your homes. Still synonymous with the signature darkly enchanting style of Adam Slade, Swarm Design will at the very least, make you look twice.
